CINCINNATI, Ohio The Corporate English CD, a unique concept in teaching English for the business world, is now being distributed by Encomium Publications, a U.S.-based publishing and distribution company. This integrated, personalized testing and training system was created by C.A.T.S. (Computer Assisted Training Systems GmbH) in Germany. Companies currently considering the product include 3M, Bosch, DaimlerChysler, KPMG and Henkel.

Corporate English, which provides testing and training for upper elementary to upper intermediate levels, consists of three components: Testing System, Training Materials and Administration Software. The system generates personalized courses for each learner based on the learner's individual strengths and weaknesses. It makes optimal use of training resources by addressing students' common needs in-class and their individual needs outside of class and is easy to administer because the test results and course progress, even for a large number of students, can be monitored from a single (network or remote) location.

The Testing System component, which can be taken on any Windows¨-based PC, incorporates both placement and diagnostic testing, and the automatic analysis of the results provides complete and immediate feedback. The test first defines precisely what the learner needs to know and then delivers a personalized course that exactly corresponds to those needs. Richard West and Sue Davies, two of the world's leading experts in language testing, developed the diagnostic needs analysis, which draws from almost 1,300 test items and delivers a clear road map of the learner's requirements.

The Training Materials feature over 500 fully interactive, motivational training modules that cover structure usage, business functions and business skills. The resource, which comprises more than 2,500 pages, is focused on the corporate environment and offers numerous examples and interactive exercises. Over 100 modules have sound support. This feature is to be extended to all modules.

The Administration Software monitors test results, displays courses based on diagnostic test results, generates test and course reports, allows for trainer intervention in course design and provides large-scale analysis of test results. The client can choose from these databases: Access 2000, MD DE (a mini SQL) or SQL running on an NT server. Corporate English also operates with an on-screen translation system.

Corporate English, which is designed to be a permanently evolving system, is priced at $150 per learner license.
